Welcome back to Tanya P, who returns safely to us after spending the last year in Israel!

One of those news items that didn't get to us until nearly two months after it happened... Congratulations to Pat Lambert on the birth of his son on September 10th!!!

In similar news, though more timely, congratulations to Pino Z on the birth of his new baby!

Despite the Twin Towers Karate Tournament's second time in five years being scheduled on the Jewish High Holy Days, we had a good turnout from CHKA. Those who came had a good time, and we really got the word out about our new school location (across the street from the tournament venue!)

Our students did quite well, and major congratulations to all who participated!

Jose Marrero - 1st place in kata; beginners, age 30-39
Johann Hoffman - 1st place in kata & 4th place in fighting; beginners, age 20-29
Sherwin King - 1st place in kata & 3rd place in fighting (tied); advanced, age 30-39
Larry D'Abreau - 1st place in fighting & 2nd place in kata; beginners, age 20-29
Ron Pottie - 3rd place in kata & 3rd place in fighting (tied); advanced, age 30-39
Katie Malewich - 2nd place in fighting & 3rd place in kata; beginners, age 12-13
Ranadeb Mukarjee - 2nd place in fighting; beginners, age 20-29
Maureen Taylor - 3rd place in fighting & 3rd place in kata; beginners, age 20-29
Clint Hasserath - 4th place in fighting & 4th place in kata; beginners, age 20-29

CHKA is moving!

Thanks to those of you who showed up this weekend (9/13-14) to help pack and move to our new location at 30 Lexington Avenue. With the limited "hands-on-deck" who showed up, we managed to accomplish this with a bit of wear and tear, but successfully!

Over the coming week anyone who can help out with painting, floors, etc.  - we could really use your help! CHKA is not just a school that you happen to show up at to train - it is your martial arts family. The more people who come to assist, the sooner we can re-open, and the higher the quality of the renovation.

Our new school will occupy three floors in a new building - two separate workout floors, plus a separate "privates" workout space, new changing rooms (there will no longer be long term lockers - daily use only), and lots of space!

Look for a new schedule and new classes!

Congratulations to Chris Root, whose band, Mosquitos, got a nice write-up in Time Out New York's August 14-21, 2003 issue!

Sensei Antonio Vazquez' Brooklyn C.H.K.A. is now open!

7107 18th Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11204

The staff and students of CHKA are saddened by the loss of James Phillip Shamburger, father of Sifu Jack F.C. Shamburger, on Thursday, April 3, 2003. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family

Our first Intra-School Tournament (Shiai) of 2003 was held March 22nd (and the second on June 7th). Also, promotions were held on the same morning. See the promotions page for the latest.

1/19/03 - We just returned from the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame 2003 weekend in Atlantic City hosted by Al Sussman and Master Alan Goldberg. A world championship kickboxing and mixed martial arts exhibition; trade show expo; Hall of Fame dinner; and national tournament were just some of the fun we had. Our students had the opportunity to spend time with some of the greats of the martial arts world - Don "the Dragon" Wilson, Cynthia Rothrock, Dan Severn, Bob Wall, Eric Lee, and Jason Lau. We attended seminars led by Michael D. Pasquale, Jr., Kimo Ferreira, and S. Papasan Canty.

Quite the group representing CHKA! Sifu hosted a table of students, all of whom were presented with awards for their contributions in the martial arts! Sifu himself was honored by the Hall of Fame as a Goodwill Ambassador to both the arts and the Hall of Fame itself. Shihan Augie flew in from Chicago; Senseis Antonio V., Juan J., Wil L., Roy A., and Mike S., and Sempais Aleks B. and Dan P. were all honored for their dedication to the martial arts spirit.

Sifu, Shihan Augie, Aleks B. and Dan P. all stayed for Sunday's (today) tournament, The War at The Shore. Dan brought home two second place trophies for men's intermediate kata and weapons.
