Just happy to be there competing!

Why did you begin in Martial Arts?

I started the Martial Arts for self-protection and because of my fascination with Asian culture, philosophy, and the beauty of the Arts. Not to mention Sunday afternoon Kung-fu Movies! I continued because of the self-discipline, skill, beauty and technique that practice brings. I will always practice the Martial Arts and I wouldn't have the successes I have without them.

Why did you choose CHKA?

Because it was a sophisticated and combat effective style, and because Sifu is the best teacher I have ever encountered. I had plateaued before joining CHKA and I am thankful to the school, the teachers, and Sifu for taking me to the next level.

Anything you'd like to say about the Martial Arts?

Everyone should study the Martial Arts. For some it is a lifetime pursuit. CHKA is a school where one can truly become a Martial Artist. The skills you learn here are a gift - respect your teachers, your Art, and most especially Sifu for giving us the opportunities.

Outside of CHKA, what else is happening in your life?

I write screenplays. I've been published in Inside Kung-fu magazine. I am an electrician on Broadway - currently working on Les Miserables. My brother, Tim Altman, and my sister-in-law, Pam Wilkes-Altman, are also CHKA blackbelts.
